Forest Landscape Restoration in Uganda

Forest Landscape Restoration in Uganda

Role - Camera Operator

Director - James Thompson (Melt)

The Greater Virunga Landscape is one of the richest ecosystems in the world in terms of species diversity and endemism. At the same time, Uganda has one of the highest deforestation rates in the world and a very high population growth rate. To address these challenges, a forest landscape restoration approach is chosen. The project goal is to scale up the restoration from existing 16,000 ha to 120,000 ha adjacent to protected areas in cooperation with smallholder farmers through development of forest value chains for socio-economic transformation and biodiversity.

WWF is developing sustainable business models which can attract the investment needed to plant trees, buy processing equipment, and support conservation activities. These sustainable business activities can improve local livelihoods and secure a sustainable timber supply, while helping to conserve remaining primary forest.

My goal is to deliver the best creative imagery and video content possible. Based in the Highlands of Scotland photography, film and image making have been a large part of my life for the last 15 years. It gives me a reason to travel, a opportunity for adventure and way of cataloging life as it passes us by.
